Horizon Equity Partners has announced a significant investment in a management led buyout of Johannesburg-based Lincoln Lubrication SA. This is the fourth investment from Horizon’s R600m Fund III. Earlier this year, the fund completed investments in consumer goods distributor S. Bacher & Co., retail jewellers Galaxy, and food producer @Source, which processes rehydrated and dried fruit for the retail market.
Currently undergoing a high growth phase and expanding into Africa, Lincoln distributes automated lubrication systems, lubrication equipment and components, liquid fast-fill solutions and fluid dispensing equipment for use in industrial machinery, construction & mining vehicles as well as other heavy duty equipment.
Horizon Equity MD Richard Flett said, ‘In these challenging economic times it is important to invest in niche businesses with a defensible market position and great growth prospects that will be relatively unaffected by the impending global recession. Lincoln has been growing rapidly over the past several years and is the acknowledged leader in its target markets. They possess unrivalled market and application expertise and are busy expanding their product range, sector and geographic footprint to fuel continued growth.”
Lincoln is undergoing a high growth phase through its expansion into the rest of Africa, where the company has already achieved substantial turnover. It is a beneficiary of construction, mining, and infrastructure growth in South Africa and the African continent.
Lincoln Lubrication Sales & Marketing Director, Patrick Sandker, is equally optimistic. ‘We haven’t felt the impacts of the economic slowdown’, Sandker said. ‘Coal mining is still going strong and infrastructure projects continue to operate and grow in number.’
Sandker adds, ‘Private equity investment provides the capital we need to expand further. Horizon is a shareholder that actively supports our growth plans. We are currently selling in many African countries and will be increasing that number over the next three years.’
